Scots Wha Hae
(Scotch National Hymn)
Air has been traced back to a date as early as 1512. It was then sung as Now the Day Dawis. Burns probably wrote the words after a thunderstorm in August of 1793. He sprung it on his friend, John Syme, with whom Burns was walking in the rain, and ostensibly it was an impromptu performance. B\ t this habit of Burns was misleading, and doubtless the words had been fully conceived and well polished long before that rainy-day walk. |
